However, not all campgrounds allow pets on site. It would be a real bummer to show up ready to pitch a tent only to be turned away. You need to know where you and your pup can hang out ahead of time, and that’s what you are going to learn about today. General Campsite Rules for Dogs
If you want your camping trip to go smoothly and continue to be allowed to bring Spot back, there are some rules you need to follow to avoid any trouble.
- You must ensure that your pup is healthy and up to date on his vaccinations before hitting the road. Take the dog to the vet and get the green light from the doc before packing up your tent.
- Your dog needs a collar and ID on him at all times. You may do your best to watch him carefully, but accidents happen, and your pup could easily get lost. If you want to be reunited, people need to know who this dog is and who it belongs to. Have his name, your name, and your phone number engraved on a tag to be safe.
- If you plan to go hiking, be sure that the campsite you are visiting allows dogs on the trails. Some don’t, and that could pose a problem as you can’t just leave your pet in the tent while you explore.
- Always supervise your dog. This is just common sense! Dogs are curious and do not always know what they should avoid. To prevent any injury to your pet or anyone else, watch closely, and keep your puppy safe.
- Pick up after your pet’s waste. No one wants to step in dog poop – it smells, it sticks, and it is just yucky overall. Be courteous to others and always clean up after your dog does his business.
- Most campsites require that you keep your dog on a leash. This may seem unfair at first; how can Spot truly enjoy the outdoors when he’s tethered to you? While we would all like for our pups to run free, the safety of others and of your pet is more important.
